Kaye, the Falashas of Ethiopia have been genetically shown not to have syrian Mitochondrial dna or Syrian Y chromosomes common to many modern European Jews, along with nearly all modern Lebanese, Syrians, and Jordanians. The falashas are descended from Jewish converts of probably first Yemenite then native Ethiopian stock. Their ancestors hae practiced Judaism for over 2000 years but they are not the actual direct descendants of the 12 Tribes of Israel (unlike so many European Jews who are).
