The anceint Kemetians did seem to have a close connection to the land of Punt that they called Ta-akh[land of the ancestors]. From the archeological,anthropological,and other various evidence i am inclied to agree that what you said is true. Many people in modern Upper Egypt have a Eastern African apperance much like Somalis with wavy to tightly curled hair.

I have mentioned this before that Egypt was divided into two lands:one land known as Ta-Shemu[Upper Egypt],and Ta-Mehu[Lower Egypt] Tropical African types lived in Ta-Shemu and more Medditerean types or Near Eastern types lived in Lower Egypt.

The early culture of Egypt seems to have it's origins in pastorial people of the Sahara. We know that the Sahara was once more fetile than it was today with more tropical fauna. We also know that most of the inhabitants of the Southern and Central Sahara were negriod. The rock art at Tassil Najjer in Algeria also shows that tropical African types lived in the Sahara region. We also have evidence that mummification and the Anpu cult was also praticed by these people.

So even though Egypt itself had a hetrogenous population with tropical Africans in the south and more Medditerean types in the north,the civilization that lead to the development of ancient Kmt was in the Sahara and other areas along the Nile and deeper in Africa. We also have the Nabta Playa megaliths which date to around 10,000-6,700 B.C. and are closely connected to the African Aquatic culture and the early pre-dyanstic Badarian culture.
